Modernization & Repair Modernization is the replacement of components of an existing elevator with components that perform the same functions but with greater efficiency or accuracy. For example, single speed AC elevator controllers are limited in their ability to stop an elevator level with the hoistway landing. Single speed elevator controllers rely upon the brake tension and activation of a stopping switch at a set distance from the landing for stopping level with the landing. Unfortunately, a change in the weight of the elevator car changes the momentum and thus the stopping accuracy. We would suggest the replacement of the single speed controller with a new variable voltage variable frequency control system. Variable voltage variable frequency control systems vary both the voltage and frequency of the voltage applied to the hoist motor in order to vary the speed with which that motor turns. Because of this, the hoist motor can be brought to an electrical stop - a state where the hoist motor is energized but not turning. Coupled with an infinite ability to vary the hoist motor speed, the floor stops can be set accurately regardless of the load in the car. Modernization can result in the addition of new features, such as Fire Emergency Recall operation and can be used to increase the safety of the passengers riding the elevator and thus reduce your exposure in our litigious society. Some examples of modernization and the associated benefits are:
